![]() ![]() He grew up in Wapping, a seaport section of London. William Wymark Jacobs, born September 8, 1863, was the son of a wharf manager and his wife. Jacobs was one of the most popular humorists of the early 1900s, although his most famous story, “The Monkey’s Paw,” is considered a horror classic. His careful, economical creation of setting and atmosphere add suspense to the tale, while his use of dialogue and slang (another Jacobs trademark) help readers to feel that the characters are genuine. Jacobs uses foreshadowing, imagery and symbolism in this story to explore the consequences of tempting fate. Morris warns the Whites not to wish on it at all-but of course they do, with horrible consequences. White a mummified monkey’s paw, said to have had a spell put on it by a holy man that will grant its owner three wishes. Sergeant-Major Morris, home after more than twenty years in India, entertains his hosts with exotic stories of life abroad. The story opens with the White family spending a cozy evening together around the hearth. ![]() “The Monkey’s Paw” is probably the best example of this. In addition to humor, Jacobs explored the macabre in several of his tales. Many of his stories are set on the waterfronts and docks of London, which Jacobs knew from his own childhood. Henry’s stories, Jacobs’ tales are tightly constructed, humorous stories that usually revolve around simple surprise-ending plots. Henry, Jacobs was famous during his lifetime for writing a particular type of story rather than for any particular work. The story was also very popular with readers. “The Monkey’s Paw” was well received when Jacobs first published it the story garnered rave reviews from some of the most important critics writing at the turn of the century. The story has since been published in many anthologies, adapted for the stage, and made into films. It first appeared in Harper’s Monthly magazine in 1902, and was reprinted in his third collection of short stories, The Lady of the Barge, also published in 1902. Jacobs’ most famous story and is considered to be a classic of horror fiction. White had managed to let him into the house.“The Monkey’s Paw” is W.W. Mangled from his accident and rotting from his time in the graveyard, Herbert would have been that "something horrible" if Mrs. White hadn't used his third wish (presumably) to send Herbert back to the grave, this might have been exactly the scenario that played out. "I expect you'll find the cash tied up in a big bag in the middle of your bed and something horrible squatting up on top of the wardrobe watching you as you pocket your ill-gotten gains." (1.65) ![]() That's right, Herb, you're never going to see the money – because you're going to die first.īefore his parents go to bed, Herbert seems to foreshadow his own disfigurement and return from the dead: After his father makes his first wish, Herbert says, "Well, I don't see the money, and I bet I never shall" (1). Herbert's death is foreshadowed several times by Herbert himself. (This is exactly what happens in the movie The Sixth Sense, for example.) Skilled use of foreshadowing can also give a story a feeling of conclusion: all the hints connect together to complete our understanding of what has happened. Foreshadowing is a tool that writers use to give readers clues about what to expect later on in the story and also to ratchet up the suspense. ![]()

The nozzle is designed to atomize the fuel - to make as fine a mist as possible so that it can burn easily. When the injector is energized, an electromagnet moves a plunger that opens the valve, allowing the pressurized fuel to squirt out through a tiny nozzle. It is supplied with pressurized fuel by the fuel pump in your car, and it is capable of opening and closing many times per second. A fuel injector is nothing but an electronically controlled valve. These systems provide more accurate fuel metering and quicker response. These systems have a fuel injector for each cylinder, usually located so that they spray right at the intake valve. Gradually, as new engines were designed, throttle body fuel injection was replaced by multi-port fuel injection (also known as port, multi-point or sequential fuel injection). These were almost a bolt-in replacement for the carburetor, so the automakers didn't have to make any drastic changes to their engine designs. ![]() There was a brief period of electrically controlled carburetors before fuel injection systems took over, but these electrical carbs were even more complicated than the purely mechanical ones.Īt first, carburetors were replaced with throttle body fuel injection systems (also known as single point or central fuel injection systems) that incorporated electrically controlled fuel-injector valves into the throttle body. This is called closed loop control - it was not feasible to achieve this control with carburetors. Oxygen sensors monitor the amount of oxygen in the exhaust, and the engine control unit (ECU) uses this information to adjust the air-to-fuel ratio in real-time. Very careful control of the air-to-fuel ratio was required for the catalytic converter to be effective. In order to meet stricter emissions requirements, catalytic converters were introduced. Choke - Provides extra fuel when the engine is cold so that it will start. ![]()

![]() ![]() Media recovery requires a control file, data files (typically restored from backup), and online and archived redo log files containing changes since the time the data files were backed up. Any database transactions in the archived redo log files not reflected in the data files are applied to the data files, bringing them to a transaction-consistent state before the database is opened. If you restore the archived redo log files and data files, then you must perform media recovery before you can open the database. The advantage of making inconsistent backups is that you can back up your database while the database is open for updates. The online redo log files must be archived and then backed up with the data files to ensure recoverability.ĭespite the name, an inconsistent backup is as robust a form of backup as a consistent backup. ![]() Open database backups are inconsistent because the online redo log files contain changes not yet applied to the data files. If the database is in ARCHIVELOG mode, then you can make inconsistent backups that are recoverable using archived redo log files. When you restore your data files from a consistent backup, you can open the database immediately. All committed changes in the online redo log files are written to the data files during the shut down process, so the data files are in a transaction-consistent state. To make a consistent backup, your database must have been shut down cleanly and remain closed for the duration of the backup. Oracle Database Backup and Recovery User's Guide discusses the flashback features of Oracle Database at greater length.Ī backup is either consistent or inconsistent. You can use all of the features while your database is available. None of the preceding features requires advance preparation such as creating logical exports to allow for retrieval of your lost data. The first two features operate at the logical level, whereas the last feature operates at the physical level. Oracle Flashback Database, which enables you to revert the entire database to a past point in time Oracle Flashback Drop, which enables you to retrieve deleted (dropped) database tables Oracle Flashback Table, which enables you to revert a table to its contents at a time in the recent past This section introduces the following flashback features: The flashback features enable you to reverse the effects of unwanted database changes without restoring data files from backup or performing media recovery. The Oracle Database flashback features provide a range of physical and logical data recovery tools as efficient, easy-to-use alternatives to physical and logical backups. An effective backup strategy must be based on physical backups. Logical backups, such as exporting database objects such as tables or tablespaces, are a useful supplement to physical backups, but cannot protect your whole database. RMAN optimizes performance and space consumption during backup with file multiplexing and backup set compression, and integrates with leading tape and storage media products. RMAN is designed to work intimately with the server, providing block-level corruption detection during backup and restore. Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN), a command-line and Enterprise Manager-based tool, is the method preferred by Oracle for efficiently backing up and recovering your Oracle database. The backup mechanisms work at the physical level to protect against file damage, such as the accidental deletion of a data file or the failure of a disk drive. With these files you can reconstruct your database. ![]() The files protected by the backup and recovery facilities built into Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control (Database Control) include data files, control files, server parameter files, and archived redo log files. The focus in Oracle Database backup and recovery is on the physical backup of database files, which permits you to reconstruct your database. ![]() ![]() ![]() They're extremely powerful, or extremely fast. But obviously, most people don't like grinding levels too much. This way, the bosses were easy to defeat, and nothing more than a simple task. Boss fights- The first one's boss fights were easy, if you've grinded through everywhere to gain levels. This way, the game requires more strategy.ĥ. If you level up, depending on how much your character's health improves by, same with the current health you have. If leveled up, everything about your character fully healed back. The far too fast leveling- In the first game, each hit you did, got you around 20 experience. The main character is still kind of weak, but that can be fixed with the unitement ring (Explained later). The story does feel better in the second game, because there's a whole lot more going on, and feels much more complete. It was pretty typical story, and had a few good moments. The first game's story was nothing really great. Unless you count the villians, where they always die or run away. Well, in Final fantasy tactics, both the games do not have some sort of a character dying. However, its longer, has more twists, characters that betray you in the story, and even death of some important characters. ![]() To be honest, the storyline seems to have a similar pattern of the first game. The second game released a few months back, and seemed to have a decent review (Famitsu). I can list the flaws within the game, but I'd rather not, seeing how long the list is. It wasn't the best game ever, but certainly wasn't the worst. It was a called a "FF tactics rip-off", tossed around, kicked by lots of gamers. To begin with, the first Luminous arc game wasn't so great. ![]() ![]() ![]() I can only assume Resolve isn't as user friendly as pure video production software, because it is basically a software package that emulates a massively complex, dedicated software/hardware "appliance". ![]() One of my other programs I'm using is writing bad header information to my video files as compared to the actual content, so I'll have to watch for that too.
